Omega 57 Outstanding Solution for the Steel Industry

End-user Company – MISR National Steel
Misr National Steel (MNS), based in Egypt, is a subsidiary of Solb Misr Group, which also owns Suez Steel Company, an integrated steel complex with an annual capacity of 2 Million Metric Tons (MT) of steel. The Group also owns The Egyptian Company for Iron and Steel Products with annual capacity of 300,000 MT.

MNS is a listed company engaged in the manufacture of reinforced steel bars (annual capacity: 400,000 MT) per Egyptian and international standards in different sizes and thicknesses. MNS’ rebar plant is located in Suez, 110 kilometers from Cairo. It consists of a hot rolling mill with bar quenching system, water treatment plant, maintenance workshop, quality assurance laboratory and electrical sub-station.

Omega Solutions
Previously, MNS’ plant applied a multinational brand of grease (“M” grease) designed for ball and roller bearings of steel rolling mill to lubricate bearings of the first six stands of the hot rolling mill. Exposed to high temperatures, high loadand moisture, “M” grease deteriorated quite rapidly and its service life was not as specified. On average, the monthly consumption rate of this “M” grease was about 2,800 Kgs (two thousand eight hundred kilograms). After months of application, the plant had to look for other grease due to the abnormally high consumption rate. Impressed by the successful applications of Omega products in other steel mills, the plant approached Trust Engineering for a solution. Omega 57, which offers excellent resistance to water, heat and high load, was introduced to the plant. After testing and carefully monitoring the performance of Omega 57 in a mill stand for several months, the plant decided to replace “M” grease with Omega 57 in six stands. Reason for the change is so obvious that any in-depth evaluation or analysis seems to be unnecessary. Monthly consumption is reduced by close to 17 times to 166 Kgs (one hundred and sixty-six kilograms) after using Omega 57. The price of Omega 57 is relatively high. However, the saving by Omega 57 in grease consumption and downtime for re-lubrication is exceptional.
